I like to craft and I’m lucky enough to have a 5-year-old and 4-year-old that feel the same way. For Sophie’s 4th birthday I asked her and big sister Ava to help me with some Tangled Crafts for the party.
The girls and I potted these magical golden flowers. Our supplies came from broken jewelry and left overs recovered from the garage. Total price for 6 potted magical golden flowers: $1. I purchased tacky Tiger Lily’s at the Family Dollar store.
Next we personalized table cloths for the party.
Save money and up the artistry by using left over scrap-book paper. Coordinating paper looks more “authentic” compared to matching solid colored paper. I used the ends of my Paddlewood Design paddles to create the Cat Tails and the rubber tub ducks as templates.
This was such an easy banner to put together and it absolutely delighted the birthday girl. String paper lunch bags on a sisal string. Paste letters to the front and back. I love the double meaning here: Sure it’s a direct quote from the movie, but it’s also a nod to my daughter’s birth which will forever be the “best day ever.”
Take care when laying out your letters. Happy Birthday will go left to right but when you flip it over Best Day Ever will be in reverse. Paste the “B” in “Best” behind the “Y” in “Birthday.” Trust me, kids’ glue dries fast, it’s best to get it right the first time.
Sophie had wanted a Rapunzel Pinata but I really felt uncomfortable with the kids bashing a pretty princess. We compromised with a pinata that displayed the Flynn Ryder wanted poster. Mix flour and water into a thick paste. Shred newspaper and apply to your form. I used light pieces of cardboard from cereal and pasta boxes. I weighted the form with soup cans until the first layer dried. Fringe tissue paper and apply your wanted poster. You can download the image here.
We made these delicate floating lanterns by rubbing crayons across tracing paper. I placed paper flowers and swirls between the pages for a stronger pop of color. This style of lantern is best used indoors and hung by windows or from the ceiling.
This is probably the only craft that young kids should not take part in. After carefully emptying several wine bottles I hot glued sisal string around the glass. They looked so “hairy” it brought the following movie poster to mind.
The girls and I put a lot of work into our Tangled Crafts but spend relatively little out-of-pocket. Look through your stationary, kitchen, garden shed and jewelry box for inspiration. You will be surprised at the amount of supplies for Tangled Crafts you already have on hand.
Have fun crafting with the kids. They may be small but they their talent is great!
I love these ideas!! How fun.

Thanks– The lanterns were so much fun to put together with the girls. So long as you have a still day or an indoor event they will be a great addition to your party:)
